Shanghai international industry fair to focus on industrial upgrading

Shanghai will hold the 19th China International Industry Fair from November 7 to 11 to convene and exhibit advanced technologies worldwide in a bid to bolster China's industrial upgrading, the local government said today.

The fair will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, presenting technologies and products involving advanced machine tools, metal processing, industrial automation, robots, new energy, information technology and aviation.

The city aims to attract the latest innovation and technologies to bolster China's industrial upgrading, especially in developing smart manufacturing and green energy, said Rong Zhiqin, deputy director at the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

A total of 2,562 companies from 28 countries and regions will show up at the over 280,000-square-meter site, with over 160,000 visitors expected to attend the exhibition, Rong said.

The fair's highlights include innovation, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing and green economy. Special exhibition areas will focus on artificial intelligence chips, face recognition applications, machine learning systems, advanced medical devices, digital manufacturing systems and new materials such as graphene.

Before the opening, organizers will award 41 products for their innovation and industrial design, which will help guide visitors to learn the excellent achievements, Rong said.

Alongside exhibitions, the fail will hold forums including 2017 Innovation and Emerging Industries Development International Forum, Global City Information Forum, Made in China 2025 Forum and 2017 World Autonomous Vehicle Ecosystem Conference, said Cao Gang, an official at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

United Kingdom is the guest country of honor this year, which will set up a special area at the fair to showcase its latest technologies and services in fields covering automobile, aviation, ocean engineering and information technology.

Meanwhile it will hold a special talk at the Made in China 2025 Forum on November 7 to address the collaborations between China and UK to boost innovation.

While globally advanced manufacturers would take Hannover Fair as the benchmark of exhibitions featuring the latest innovation for western countries, Shanghai aims to compete for being the eastern counterpart showing advanced technologies, which helps realize China's industrial transformation and improve the rank in the world's industries, Rong said.
